It’s officially November—and that means I go home next month. It feels great to finally say that. The past few weeks dragged by after all the back-and-forth with my date getting changed. Now that it’s settled again, I’m getting my head right and focused on finishing strong.
Usually, the drama around here helps pass the time, but now that I’m close to leaving, I’m just over it. Still, I’ve got to share the latest—because honestly, sometimes this place feels like high school with grown men.
One of my buddies, another white-collar crypto guy, accidentally said the N-word (soft “-a”) in a totally misunderstood conversation. He wasn’t calling anyone that—it was more of an example while defending himself from being called racist. Unfortunately, the wrong person overheard, twisted the story, and before long, rumors spread all over the compound. The situation blew up fast. He got pulled up in RDAP, couldn’t explain the context, and then was kicked out of his housing unit under the claim that people felt “uncomfortable.” Once the truth came out, everyone knew he wasn’t racist—but the damage was done.
At the same time, we’ve had some staff changes. One new guard actually treated us like humans, which was refreshing—until the same guy who spread the first rumor told staff the guard had covered up someone getting caught with a phone. The guard got chewed out, and now he’s been hitting every wing with nightly searches out of frustration. I can’t even blame him, but the real problem here is the “shot caller” who keeps stirring things up. He’s known for spreading lies, pitting people against each other, and pretending he’s the moral authority.
Friday, I finally called him out in RDAP for manipulation—what they call “criminal thinking errors.” He accepted the feedback, but afterward, things got weird. Some guys said I was wrong for doing it publicly, while others came up to fist-bump me for standing up to him. It’s crazy how divided people can be in a place like this. But honestly, I don’t care. I’m done watching this guy mess with people’s lives.
Right now, I’m just focused on going home. I’ve been sketching ideas for my house renovation—a full-on digital man cave. I’ve also been pushing hard in my workouts. My pull-up goal is to hit 10 in a row by release—I started at 1 a month ago and hit 5 today. Progress!
I’ve even been thinking about creating a workout app when I get home—something like “Burpee Buddy” to help others follow the same routines I’ve built in here.
Until then, I’m keeping my head down, staying out of the drama, and counting down the days.
Stay safe and legal out there,
Larry
